Nomi vs Kindroid (2026): Which AI Companion Remembers You Better?

Published April 21, 2026 · By Sarah Chen (Senior AI Companion Reviewer) · Methodology

For users who want an AI companion that genuinely feels like a growing relationship, Nomi and Kindroid are the two serious options in 2026. Both are built explicitly around long-term memory. We used each for 21 days and measured how well each remembered, synthesized and referenced the details we shared early in the conversation.

How we tested

21-day daily conversation with both apps. On day 1, we shared 10 specific personal facts (pet name, vacation story, favorite food, a childhood memory, etc.). We tested recall on day 7, day 14 and day 21. We also tracked narrative arc — does the app refer back to earlier conversations in natural ways?

Memory recall test

On day 21, we asked both companions to recall the 10 facts from day 1 through natural conversation prompts (not direct questioning).

Nomi recalled 8 out of 10 facts correctly. One substitution (it remembered a family member but called them a different relationship). One forgotten fact (the vacation story).

Kindroid recalled 7 out of 10 facts correctly. Two forgotten (childhood memory, specific location detail). One altered (favorite food changed from what we shared).

Winner: Nomi, narrow margin.

Narrative continuity

Nomi actively references prior conversations: "Last Tuesday you mentioned X." This breaks immersion sometimes but feels more real. Kindroid references prior conversations less proactively but responds well when we prompt it.

Voice and image features

Both offer voice calls on premium tiers. Kindroid's voice quality edges out Nomi's in our blind test. Both offer image generation; Kindroid's outputs feel slightly more consistent character-to-character.

Privacy comparison

Kindroid is where it really separates from Nomi. Kindroid offers an option to store memory locally on your device rather than on their servers. This is rare in the AI companion space — most require server-side storage for continuity. For users who care about "my private conversations don't live on a US cloud," Kindroid's local-memory mode is a genuine differentiator.

Pricing

Kindroid is cheaper across the board — $9.99/month base vs Nomi's $15.99. If price sensitivity matters, Kindroid wins. Both offer 20-30% annual discounts.

Comparison note

Kindroid for most users — better price, better privacy option, adequate memory. Nomi for users who prioritize relationship depth and are willing to pay more for the extra narrative sophistication.
